Shim Set Generator

About Shim Set Generator

Shim Set Generator prints the shims you level and pack with: flat packers, horseshoe shims with a slot for a bolt, tapered wedges and stepped wedges. Every thickness snaps to whole layers on your slicer's first layer, so each piece prints as thick as its number says, and every number is cut into the piece, never raised, so it does not change the thickness.

The full guide: every step with pictures, examples, print settings, fixes and every setting.

Frequently asked questions

Why do my printed shims come out the wrong thickness?
A slicer prints a first layer and then whole layers, so a thickness between two layer counts is rounded. This tool snaps every thickness to whole layers on your first layer and shows what it prints as, so the number on the shim is the truth.
How are the shims marked?
Thick pieces have their number engraved two layers deep; thin ones have it cut through, with the letters' holes filled so nothing falls out; wedges carry it underneath. Marks are never raised, which would change the thickness.
What slot does a horseshoe shim get?
The hole of the bolt's ISO 7089 washer, plus the hole offset your printer measured in the fit test, so the shim slides round the bolt.
Which filament should shims be?
PETG keeps its thickness under a lasting load better than PLA, which creeps over time.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Shim Set Generator runs in the browser, and the geometry is built on your computer. It is free; you need a free NabiMakes account to download the files.
