French Cleat Generator

About French Cleat Generator

French Cleat Generator makes the parts that hang on a French cleat wall, sized for yours: a hanger to screw onto a wooden holder, hooks with one to four prongs, small shelves and the wall strip itself. Tell it your cleat's angle, its real thickness, its height and the gap between rows; the hook clears the cleat by your printer's sliding fit and the spacer goes only where the back needs one to hang plumb. Every part prints on its side, with no supports, and a fit coupon tells you the cleat's real thickness first.

Frequently asked questions

45° or 30°?
45° is the usual cut and holds most things. A 30° cleat pushes the wall cleat apart less and needs a shorter hook, so it fits closer rows. Set the angle your saw's blade was tilted to.
My ¾ inch plywood is not 19 mm. Which setting do I use?
Most ¾ inch plywood is 23/32 inch, about 18.26 mm, and some is thinner. Print the fit coupon: its comb names your cleat's real thickness in 0.25 mm steps, and you can type it as your own.
Why does my part have no spacer at the bottom?
A spacer is only needed when the back reaches below the wall cleat. A back that ends on the cleat's face, or reaches the next row, rests on it and hangs plumb without one.
How much weight will it hold?
It depends on the filament, the print and the wall, so the tool gives no load figures. Do not hang anything that can hurt someone if it falls, such as a monitor or a TV. For parts that hold weight for months, PETG, ASA or PC creep less than PLA.
Do I need to install anything?
No. French Cleat Generator runs in the browser, and the geometry is built on your computer. It is free; you need a free NabiMakes account to download the files.
