Flat Wrench Generator

About Flat Wrench Generator

Flat Wrench Generator makes flat spanners for the nuts you have: ISO, DIN, JIS, JIS small and inch widths, from 3 to 40 mm, with the threads each width fits. Each end is open, at 15° or straight, or a 6- or 12-point ring, or one end is left off. The opening is the nut, the middle of the ISO 691 play and your printer's measured hole offset, with a fine adjust, and a fit chip tries four steps on the nut before you print the whole spanner. It prints flat, with the size on the handle, raised or flush in a second colour.

Frequently asked questions

Is a printed spanner strong enough?
For hand-tight nuts, yes. In makers' tests a printed ring held several times the torque of open jaws, which spread under load. Use the ring to loosen a tight nut, print it solid, and keep a steel spanner for anything torqued.
Why is my M10 spanner 16 mm and not 17?
ISO 4032 nuts are 16 mm across for M10 and 18 mm for M12; DIN 934 and old JIS nuts are 17 and 19 mm. Pick the standard your nut follows, or measure it and pick the width.
How tight is the opening?
The nut's width, the middle of the play a steel spanner has under ISO 691 and your printer's measured hole offset. The fit chip prints four openings from −0.1 to +0.2 mm, so you can set Opening adjust to the one that slides on without rocking.
Why does it print flat?
Lying flat, the turning force runs along the layers. Standing up, it would pull the layers apart.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Flat Wrench Generator runs in the browser, and the geometry is built on your computer. It is free; you need a free NabiMakes account to download the files.
