How to 3D print a screwdriver rack for your drivers

Screwdriver Rack Generator makes a wall rack with a slot or hole for each of your drivers, picked from Wiha's Phillips, slotted and Torx sizes or measured. Each opening takes the shaft with room from your printer, a cone seat holds the handle upright, and the spacing comes from the handles. It prints as it hangs, shelf down with no supports, cuts itself between openings into pieces that fit your bed, and screws or hangs on a 45° French cleat. It is free and downloads STL or 3MF.

What can you make with Screwdriver Rack Generator?

Racks for 1 to 16 drivers, shafts from 1 to 16 mm, handles up to 60 mm. Makers print:

  • A rack for the six drivers they use most.
  • A Phillips or Torx set in size order.
  • A row of precision drivers above the electronics bench.
  • A long rack in two pieces for a small printer.

How do you make a screwdriver rack, step by step?

Everything is in the panel beside the rack, which updates as you change it. Start from a preset, then change what you need.

  1. 1. Start from a preset

Pick Mixed six, Phillips PH0–PH3, Torx T10–T30 or Precision row. A preset sets only what it names; Surprise me tries another gap, seat and shelf and keeps your drivers.

  2. 2. List your drivers

Name them left to right: PH0 to PH3, slotted 3.0 to 12.0 and Torx T5 to T40 come with their shaft and handle from Wiha's catalogue. For another brand, measure the shaft and the handle and type "6 x 32", or "6 x 9 x 32" for a wide slotted tip. Even makes a row of one size.

  3. 3. Choose the openings

A slot is open at the front, so the shaft slides in; a hole holds the driver all round and passes its tip. The seat is a 45° cone that holds the handle upright; the gap is the room between handles.

Slots with a 2 mm seat.
  4. 4. Pick the mount

Screw holes or keyholes in the back, or a 45° French cleat. The back grows for the screws or the hook; on a long rack every piece gets its own.

The Mount section: screw holes, the hole style, the screw and the count.
    Two screws per piece.
  5. 5. Check it and download

The checks say whether the rack fits your bed and in how many pieces, and whether the seats, the back and the labels have room. Then download 3MF or STL.

Which racks can you start from?

Each example opens in Screwdriver Rack Generator as a new design, beside your own.

The rack prints shelf down, the way it hangs: the openings stand upright, the seats open upwards and the gussets rise from the shelf, so no supports are needed. The layer height is a starting point; the thinnest wall is the one the printer checks hold each filament to.

FilamentLayer height to startThinnest wallSupportsNotes
PLA0.2 mm0.8 mmNoneFine for a few drivers; PLA creeps under a load it holds for months.
PETG0.2 mm0.8 mmNoneCreeps less, for a full rack of heavy drivers.

Tips for a rack that holds

  • Measure drivers of other brands: handles differ more than shafts.
  • Screw every piece of a long rack into a stud or a wall plug.
  • Use PETG for heavy drivers.
  • Add a brim to long pieces on a bed that lets corners lift.
  • Before you print, check it on the view's bar: Dimensions shows its size, Measure the distance between two points, Section cuts it open and Layers steps through it as your printer will.

What if a driver will not go in, or the rack will not fit?

A driver is tight in its opening
Raise the clearance, or run the Fit Test so every opening takes your printer's offset.
A handle touches the back
Turn on the depth from the handles, or press Apply: the openings move out by half the widest handle.
The checks say the rack is longer than the bed
Press Apply: the rack cuts itself between openings into pieces that fit.
A label runs towards the next opening
Use shorter names, smaller letters or a wider gap.

Is Screwdriver Rack Generator free?

Yes. Every driver, opening and download is free; downloading needs a free NabiMakes account, which also keeps your projects.
