About Lamp Studio

Lamp Studio designs decorative lampshades for 3D printing without CAD. You shape the shade, give it a texture, check that it prints, and download a file any slicer prints in spiral vase mode: one continuous wall rising from a base plate, with a separate ring that clips over the rim and keeps the thin wall round.

What it is for

  • A lampshade for a pendant or table lamp with an E27 or E14 lamp holder.
  • A ribbed, woven, twisted or organically textured shade that would take hours to model in CAD.
  • Checking the steepest overhang before printing, so a tall or curved shade does not fail halfway.
  • Matching a shade to your printer's bed and height, with a filament estimate in PLA or PETG.

How to use Lamp Studio

  1. Shape. Start from one of the templates or Surprise me, then set the height, the top and bottom radius, the silhouette (straight, curve, hourglass, S-curve or dome), the form (round, triangle, square or pentagon), the twist and the hole for an E27 (41 mm) or E14 (28 mm) fitting.
  2. Style. Pick PLA or PETG and a filament colour, then add ribs, rings or organic waves, or switch on the woven pattern. Fade the texture in and out at the bottom and the top.
  3. Review. Read the printability verdict and the overhang view, which colours the wall from green to red by its angle, and adjust the silhouette if a part is too steep.
  4. Download. Download a 3MF with the shade and the ring as two objects, or STL files. Slice the shade in spiral vase mode with the line width set to the wall thickness.

Frequently asked questions

Which lamp holders does Lamp Studio fit?
The hole in the base plate can be 10 to 80 mm wide, with one-click sizes for E27 (41 mm) and E14 (28 mm) holders. A bulb clearance setting makes the wall ease outward around the bulb.
How do I print the lampshade?
Print the shade in your slicer's spiral vase mode, with the line width equal to the wall thickness (0.8 mm by default). The stabilizer ring prints separately, upside down, and clips over the rim.
Which file formats can I download?
3MF, recommended, with the shade and the ring as two objects in one file, or the shade and the ring as separate STL or 3MF files, each centred on the bed.
Will the shade print without supports?
The review step measures the steepest wall and warns before you download. The overhang view shows the wall green up to 45°, amber at 55° and red from 65°, and Adjust manually changes the parts that are too steep.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Lamp Studio runs in the browser, and the geometry is built on your computer. You need a free NabiMakes account to use it and to keep your designs.
